California has just made the world a little safer for the state's young LGBT population.

Reparative therapy for homosexuals, which some people call a "cure", will be banned for anyone under 18 starting on January 1, 2013 thanks to a bill signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.

The politician is the first to do so in the entire country and explained his decision by saying:

Common, ahmayzing rapper, was in Chicago recently.

He was there welcoming Virgin Mobile's first flagship retail store into the neighborhood.

He participated in the From the Ground Up benefit which helps to battle youth homelessness.

What a great cause!

The Night Ministry, a Chicago-based organization that helps fight homelessness, benefitted from a concert that Common and Virgin Mobile put on later that night.

So great that Common put on a show where all the ticket sales went to charity. The youth of Chicago must've really appreciated it.

Helping his home city must feel so good.

Way to go, Common!
