Choloestorol drugs like Lipitor, Zocor, and their generic counterparts are getting a new warning on their label. Not only have they been linked to raising blood sugar and increasing the likelihood of diabetes, but they could cause memory loss.
That's kind of scary, but the class of drugs, referred to as statins, are proven to significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and heart disease. Despite the new warnings, the FDA is urging people not to fear the medicine, as one representative said in a statement:
"The value of statins in preventing heart disease has been clearly established. Their benefit is indisputable, but they need to be taken with care and knowledge of their side effects."
The agency says the newly listed side effects have only been experienced by a small number of patients and reports haven't been too serious since symptoms could be reversed by ceasing the prescription.
Do U use statins? If so, have U experienced any negative side effects associated with the cholesterol-lowering drug?
