And it was all made possible by Bob Barker!
The former Price Is Right host and animal activist funded a mission organized by Animal Defenders International (ADI) to help rescue an 18 year-old Hamadryras baboon named Tilin from a Bolivian circus. The mission began after the Bolivian government initiated the "world’s first ban of animals in circuses."
Even though Tilin would be considered sacred in his homeland of Egypt, he spent 18 years lived in solitary confinement and chained up in a cage when he wasn't performing in the circus. However, "Despite his suffering, Tilin has a gentle, kind personality, is highly intelligent and sensitive," said the President of ADI, Jan Creamer.
Accompanied by a veterinarian who tended to his needs in a climate controlled enclosure, it took 5 days for the ADI team to bring Tilin to the Lakeview Monkey Sanctuary in Berkshire, UK.
Now, Tilin can live peacefully. So inspiring!
As for Bolivia's animal ban in circuses, this initiation is a first for South America as well as the rest of the globe. Let's hope many other countries follow in their footsteps.
