Who would have thought that the biggest problem Cape Town, South Africa is now facing would be that of drunken baboons.
There is a large population of baboons who have developed a taste for the sauvignon blanc grapes grown at the vinyard in Groot Constantia.
Every day dozens of baboons travel down from the mountains to sample these grapes. After eating them they return back to their home to sleep it off, like most of us after a good amount of wine. However, there are those few who are left behind, passed out, after finding the grapes that have fermented in the sun.
The residents of Cape Town have been finding out that these baboons are not always peaceful drunks, they have been causing trouble in the towns, “They are becoming increasingly bold and destructive," said Jean Naude, general manager at the vineyard.
We have heard that blasts from those terribly annoying vuvzelas have not even been able to scare them off!
Just a few weeks ago, a 12 year old boy was left traumatized after a gang of baboons broke into his house and pelted him with fruit….my what angry drunks they are!
While this problem is being dealt with, there are many for sale signs popping up throughout the suburbs with large baboon populations.
We don’t blame them! Get those baboons into rehab!
