Chicken-Napping!

chickens for food processing

An animal science and food processing class at Concordia High School is killing chickens.

Teacher, Nate Hamilton had his students raise chickens and then slaughter them to learn about food production…hmmm

The chickens that were raised by the students for over 5 weeks had their legs tied with wire and held over buckets while Mr. Hamilton passed out knives to slit the chicken’s necks.

We don’t like this idea at all, and neither did one of his students, Whitney Hillman.

She decided to take her chicken and leave school, she could not bear to watch Chicklett, who she named and cared for, be slaughtered and gutted.

Whitney took Chicklett from the classroom and left a note behind. He is now living at a farm.
Whitney gladly took the 2 day suspension she was given from school and will pay for Chicklett, but she says that she will not apologize.

Dr. Karen Davis from the United Poultry Concerns nonprofit group pointed out that drug-abuse classes do not require hands on training, and history classes do not create war-zones. She did not think that it was necessary for the students to have to slaughter the chickens to understand where their food comes from.

It is shocking that more students than just Whitney didn’t act out when it came to killing these animals.

We don’t feel that animal cuelty should be something that is taught and promoted in the classroom.

We should be teaching kindness!

What do U think of this story??
