"Adopt, don't buy" is the word PETA has been busy spreading this holiday season, but a shelter in South Baltimore is leading by example.
BARCS has surpassed last years record setting holiday adoption numbers by 13.5 percent with a reported 3,225 adoptions in 2010.
With an incoming of about 33 pets daily and 12,000 annually, the shelter decided to offer holiday incentives in an effort to encourage people to adopt over the most giving time of the year.
It must have worked and we hope more shelters follow BARCS' example!
Specials include waived adoption fees for animals 6 months and up through the end of December, then beginning January 2nd, animals who have been in the shelter for more than a week will be available for $1.
On top of these awesome deals, the shelter does free microchipping for any adopted pets all year long!
As we make our way into the new year, remember: Adopt, don't buy.
If you live in the Baltimore area, we definitely recommend checking out the shelter because it sounds like a great deal and you might just fall in love with an animal in need of a home.
