How old do U think this cat is?
Go on. Take a guess.
Close. She's 39!
Lucy was inherited by 63-year-old Bill Thomas when his wife's Godmother died in 1999, but it wasn't until an elderly aunt came to visit that he realised Lucy was a record breaker.
"She could remember Lucy scampering around maria's fish and chip shop when she was a kitten back in 1972. We knew she was old - but not that old."
The previous record holder was a cat named Cream Puff from Texas who lived for 38 years and three days.
Lucy isn't showing any signs of giving up her title either, as Thomas said:
"Lucy has gone deaf but apart from that she is in good shape and extremely independent. She is great with the grandchildren and still likes to patrol the garden every day looking for mice."
Hunting for food at 172-cat-years-old is quite the accomplishment.
We'll be lucky if we can still chew at that age.
And if there are any doubts, the family has done their research.
"We have researched Lucy's past and found she was born in Thomas Street, Llanelli in 1972," said Thomas.
Even other people in her old neighborhood recognize the cat and are amazed she's still around.
Best of luck in the future, Lucy! We hope you live for many more happy years to come.
