It seems the age old rivalry between police officers and firefighters lives on.
While in pursuit of a burglar who stole more than $10,000 worth of jewelry from a home in Tennessee, a K-9 dog attacked a fireman instead of the burglar!
The perpertrator was in pursuit by both K-9 and the firefighter, but had stopped to put his hands up in surrender as the dog closed in.
The only problem was that the firefighter was also closing in at the same time. When the firefighter tried to grab the perp, the dog attacked him instead and bit the firefighter five or six times on his legs and arms.
Police are investigating, but say the dog did nothing wrong, only what it was trained to do.
Officer Kyle Evans told reporters:
"A canine can't tell the difference between threats. He saw someone that was running at full speed toward the officer, toward the bad guy, and the canine did what it was trained to do and that was to stop the threat."
The firefighter is at home recovering and is expected to be out of work for about a week.
Tough break, but hopefully the firefighter understands it was simply a case of mistaken identity.
We hope he makes a full recovery as soon as possible!
