This is absolutely heartwrenching news.
Knut, the famous polar bear who was famously rejected by his mother at birth, and raised by zookeepers at the Berlin Zoo, passed away today suddenly at the age of four.
According to reports, he was discovered floating in the water by the polar bear enclosure unresponsive.
Bear Keeper Heiner Kloes explained:
"He was by himself in his compound, he was in the water, and then he was dead…he was not sick, we don't know why he died."
Tests to determine his cause of death are expected to be taken on Monday.
Poor thing. This really chokes us up.
We just hope that his short time in this world was filled with love and happiness, despite his initial hardships upon birth.
May he rest in peace.
