Police busted a cockfighting ring in Texas that was using a children’s party as its front.
When officers raided the home in Dayton they found a party under way, complete with water-slide and picnic table.
But inside a small barn they discovered a gruesome fighting ring with a sick meeting in progress.
Just feet from where the children were playing, several dead and dying fowl were lying, suffering severe blood loss and cuts.
Live birds were found in cages throughout the property, many armed with steel blades attached to their beaks.
Officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recovered 48 live chicken, as well as a horse and two dogs from the property.
Penalties for orchestrating the grisly fights range from six months to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
