Elizabeth Lecoq-Currier was driving alongside a pasture in Crested Butte, Colorado one day when she saw 60 horses grazing in the field.
Then she learned that all 60 were headed to Mexican slaughter houses.
She immediatly took to the web and emailed horse advocates around the world, asking for donations to help her save the horses.
The horses were being sold for an overpriced $400.
She raised the full $24,000 in five days and all the horses were saved.
She said she originally thought:
“If I can encourage just one person to purchase and adopt one of these horses, I would be happy.”
We can imagine how happy she is now, after saving every last horsie.
The U.S. no longer slaughters horses but around the world, many large countries still eat horse meat.
American horse meat is actually considered a delicacy in many places in the world, like France, Germany, Japan and other major countries.
Save a horse, eat a cowboy! LOLz!
