Lea Michele, animal friend, tweeted recently:
"Check out the awesome eco-friendly replicas of classic cars that have been pitched 2 replace carriage horses. AMAZING!"
She dropped a link to a PETA tweet about an idea to replace horse drawn carriages.
A group called New York Class wants to replace the horse drawn carriages, saying they're cruel, with an eco-friendly solution.
Electric, faux-vintage, cars.
They will be six-person vehicles, that can run for ten hours on a three hour charge, and would only replace the horse drawn carriages, so it would put no one out of a job.
The horse carriage industry is fighting, naturally. They rake in about $15,000,000 a year.
The owner of one of the cities four carriage horse stables said:
"I don’t think there are any kids out there that are going to want to pet and kiss the fender of a car."
According to the ASPCA, the best part about replacing the horses is:
"They’re guaranteed not to urinate or defecate in the middle of your romantic moment."
Both sides raise good points but we tend to agree with anyone against animal cruelty. Lea Michele is right there with us. She said:
"What a great idea! How fun would it be 2 drive around NYC is in these cars instead of having poor sad horses being [forced] to pull our butts!"
We think it'd be tons of fun. Being eco-friendly and animal friendly all in one. That would be ah-may-zing!
