The US House of Representatives has passed a bill called the Veterans Dog Training Therapy Act.
The bill is a double whammy of helping service members suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and disabled veterans.
Those who suffer from PTSD will be training shelter dogs, which is a great way to help cope with PTSD. Then those trained dogs will become service dogs for the disabled vets.
We're surprised they haven't been doing this all along.
The Senior Vice President of ASPCA Government Relations said:
"When more and more servicemen and women are returning from overseas with PTSD and other injuries, this bill will allow for our veterans to get the therapy and assistance they need and will give some worthy shelter dogs very good homes."
The bill passed unanimously. It's nice to know the government can really do some good in these tough economic times, and really show our veterans we appreciate everything they do for us.
