Oh thank goodness!!
Earlier, we sadly reported that Buddy and Pedro, the two African male penguins who experts say have "bonded," were going to be split up so that they could be paired with females. With only a quarter of a million African penguins left, the Toronto zoo plans for the penguins to mate with the females for the sake of their endangered species.
But, thankfully, the separation will only be temporary, according to Tom Mason, the zoo’s Curator of Invertebrates and Birds. He says:
"There will be a limited time of separation but it will not be permanent. No matter what happens all the penguins will be re-united by spring. If Pedro and Buddy wish to get back together, they will be welcome to do so."
Phew! We were so worried about how lonely they would feel without each other. No worries, Buddy and Pedro! You will see each other very soon. Love conquers all!
