"Animal lovers are in for a globe trotting, multi-species adventure when Treasure Buddies is released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on January 31, 2012.
Treasure Buddies stars Disney’s lovable group of canine Golden Retriever puppy Buddies; B-Dawg, Budderball, Buddha, Mudbud, and Rosebud. Cats are also represented by Ubasti, a Sphynx cat with agenda all her own. Joining the dogs and cats are Babi, the monkey (and the movie’s narrator), and Cammy, the camel.
Treasure Buddies finds the Buddies journeying to Egypt to prevent Ubasti and her human caretaker, Dr. Phillip Wellington, from stealing the legendary Cat’s Eye Jewel from the Tomb of Cleocatra. 1999 Emmy Award winning actor (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for “The Practice”), Edward Herrmann steps in to play the scheming Dr. Wellington.
Before Treasure Buddies, Herrmann worked on screen with animals in Day of the Dolphin where he shot in the Bahamas with six Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Part of Herrmann’s responsibility was "to swim with the dolphins to keep them trained and from becoming feral."
Dolphins are typically goodnatured, but what about Herrman’s scheming feline costar, Ubasti? Herrmann noted the Sphynx cat portraying Ubasti "looks sinister, but is very smart and even tempered." She would "sit on his arm and not want to leave."
Herrmann did not share time on set with the Buddies, but he formed a close bond with his Sphynx companion and says "I loved this cat." Being an animal lover, Herrman has quite a menagerie at his Connecticut home. "Three cats, five dogs, and a turtle" populate the roost belonging to this warm and talented individual."
