Lots of people have dogs who just love to make a mess. But it can get annoying if they're constantly wrecking up things you spend time to make neat.
"My 3 year old lab is fairly well behaved and doesn't cause much trouble, but she has this horrible habit of literally ruining my well-made bed whenever I'm not home.
She will drag my comforter and/or blanket with her down the hall, put my pillows on HER dog bed or the floor, and if she does manage to leave everything on my bed, it looks like a tornado came through and dumped everything in a bundle. What gives? And how can I get her to stop?!"
Dr. Patrick responded:
Thanks for your question. It certainly sounds like you are faced with an ongoing challenge in your home with the behavior of your Labrador Retriever.
She is likely seeking comfort in your bedding due to the soothing sensation it provides. She may have a preference for the texture or cushioning effect, the ability to build a bed to best suit her needs, or your exuded scents may be appealing to her.
I suggest giving her one of your pillows and blankets to have as her own during the day. Additionally, prevent her access to your bed by closing the bedroom door or putting an obstruction onto the bed surface (aluminum foil, shower curtain, etc) to dissuade her.
