News flash: Don't mess with tigers!
South African filmmaker John Varty was viciously attacked by one of his tigers.
Yeah, that's right…one of HIS tigers.
The controversial conservationist is trying to populate tigers outside of Asia. He was attacked on his tiger farm but no one knows why the tiger turned on its owner.
Varty spent six hours in the emergency room undergoing surgery to wounds all over his body.
Amanda Appelgryn, spokeswoman for the Mediclinic hospital in Bloemfontein, said the following about his condition:
He came in last night at around nine o'clock and was treated in the trauma room. He went for six-hour surgery and is in the intensive care unit. He had lost a lot of blood and got a transfusion in theatre. He has multiple injuries on his front and back and all over his whole body, but not his face.
He is conscious: I spoke to him an hour ago and told him I would deal with the media. He also talked to his brother. It's difficult to say his feelings: he is in pain but he's doing OK.
Critcs of the filmmaker claim that he's only making money off his tigers by using his farm as a tourist attraction.
Hopefully, he pulls through and returns to full health.
