You like walking (we hope) and your dog likes walking (we know), why not do it during a hike?!
But, what's the best way to make sure you both have a safe and healthy trip?
Avoid Being A Weekend Warrior:
While the weekends are great for free time and a spurt of energy, hiking is NOT good to do on a whim for a dog.
Instead, gradually increase the distance you and your pooch walk together each day. Then, when he or she is ready, take your dog on the hike.
The Art of Recall:
Recalling your dog is key when it comes to bringing him or her off-leash.
Mastering your "Come back" call in a backyard or other enclosed area with save your pooch from a fall and other dangers.
The most important thing to hiking with your dog is being prepared. Lots of water and doggie protein snacks are key. Factoring your pet's age is also helpful when deciding to hike.
Microchips are also a good idea to make you can get a hold of your pooch in case things go wrong.
