Back to the drawing board…

As Gail Lerner steps into her new showrunner role, Amy Huberman steps OUT of the lead role in NBC's Animal Practice.

The Irish actress landed the female lead on her first American audition…

But it looks like NBC and the show want to go in a different direction.

The show features Justin Kirk as George, a House-ish veterinarian with a heart of gold…if you're an animal.

Huberman's character is George’s old flame who's now engaged to another man, but she still runs George's clinic.

Awkward!

We'll see who steps into Huberman's shoes as the role is recast.
