Before you even think about exercising your dog, make sure he or she can handle. A veterinarian should examine your pooch to make sure he or she is in tip-top health.
Considering the breed of dog is also key. Greyhounds like short sprints while pit bulls are built for endurance. Making sure you don't wear your dog down can go a loooong way!
Training your pooch to stay on one side of you well save both of you from injury. A darting dog can cause a trip or injury so tying the leash around your wrist is a no go too.
Taking baby steps will help too. An intensive workout, building up to where you can to be is healthier and safer for your dog. Also, if you or your pooch shows signs of exhaustion, pain, or injury…it's time to stop
Overall, staying hydrated and wearing the proper equipment will go a long way too.
