It's all the work of poachers.
A senior technical official of the Wildlife Conservation Society project at the park said authorities need to double the guards around the park and take action against the poachers.
What's good news (if any of this is good) is that the poaching is taking place outside of the park. In the park, poaching is much less often and the elephants' numbers have grown to 7,000!
Cameroon, which borders the Republic of Congo recently sent its military out to flush out elephant poachers from a remote nature reserve of its own.
Maybe the Congo needs to militarize as well.
Save the elephants!
