There was a preacher in West Virginia who was best known for holding deadly snakes while giving his sermons.
Mark Randall "Mack" Wolford was bitten by a venomous snake during a memorial day gathering at a park.
His sister said:
"His birthday was Saturday, and all he wanted to do is get his brothers and sisters in church together."
Wolford believed that the Bible said Christians have to handle serpents to test their faith in God. He said:
"Anybody can do it that believes it. Jesus said, 'These signs shall follow them which believe.' This is a sign to show people that God has the power."
He was giving a sermon in front of 25 people in a park when the snake bit him in the thigh.
He was transferred to a medical center where he was pronounced dead.
Apparently snake handling is a tradition to certain sects.
We feel like any faith that asks you to handle venomous snakes might be taking something a little too literally.
R.I.P. - Mack Wolford
