Germany is on top of the food chain on this one! Literally!
The country has an idea to help create sustainable and organic sources of food right on top of their citizens' roofs!
To combat the growing urban sprawl, homeowners can now have fish farms that also create vegetable gardens in their wake.
The idea has perch living in metal tanks on top of roofs. The ammonia they excrete fertilizes vegetables like tomatoes, salad leaves, and herbs in a greenhouse mounted on top of the tank!
Wow…talk about using EVERY part of the fish!
The idea is designed to combat overfishing in the Mediterranean Sea. It uses an electric current that runs through the tank to the greenhouse to keep both parts active.
So what does a homeowner needed to do to make sure the Efficient City Farming container is top notch?
Electricity, water and fish food!!
Unfortunately, these farms won't be dwelling on top of the roof of every German home.
Cost of production of this innovative idea is 35,000, so the selling price may be pretty steep.
The researchers behind the fish farms also agree that their idea won't solve the worlds problems.
