Elephants Mourn Their Dead Matriarch
Elephants share more things in common with humans other than super memory!
These gentle giants (above) have come across the bones of their matriarch and scientists believe elephants mourn and grieve and have a concept of death.
Their routine is very ritualistic; upon seeing the bones of any elephant, the elephants huddle in a circle to ward off predators.
Then, they begin to examine every inch of the bones with their trunks, before touching them with their hind legs.
Very sorrowful….but also VERY endearing.
Check out these elephants as they commemorate their fallen mother.
