The Florida Keys must be in deep poopy if it wants mutant mosquitoes flying around town!
State officials are contemplating whether or not to release mosquitoes created by British lab, Oxitec, to help the islands defend against Dengue fever.
ninja turtles mosquitoes are designed to lower the mosquito population carrying Dengue fever.
Since males don't bite humans, they will be the only ones released in the Keys!
But petitioners, 90,000 to be specific, are buying it.
Led by resident Mila de Mier, the protestors fear that the results have been thoroughly tested, believing that something could horribly wrong.
Exactly what goes horribly wrong is what they don't know.
But Oxitec CEO Hadyn Parry debunks this, stating:
The tests in the Cayman islands suggested that the number of A. aegypti mosquitoes could be reduced by about 75% over a year.
It had no impact on any other species of mosquito or other insect types, and allowed the amount of chemical pesticide sprayed locally also to be reduced.
de Mier may not want to be a lab rat but it's either sickness or mosquitoes.
A real catch-22…
