The Japanese River Otter has just been officially declared extinct.
The last one spotted in the wild was over 30 years ago.
And now there will never be another one.
It was hunted for its fur and had its population thinned by pollution and habitat destruction.
The Japanese River Otter was a playful, friendly creature that used to regularly interact with humans.
Now we can only look at their taxidermied carcasses in museums.
That's so sad.
