Just like the many human soldiers who return home with post traumatic stress disorder, there are military dogs who suffer through the same pain.
Veterinarians are quickly diagnosing returning veteran dogs with canine PTSD. They believe that dogs experience combat just like humans and many pooches return home completely traumatized.
Vets and dog handlers agree that canine PTSD can be treated with retraining, anti-anxiety medication and conditioning.
While it may never to possible to truly rid humans or animals of PTSD, it's great to hear this distress in dogs is being taken seriously.
We honor all the men, women, and dogs who sacrifice their lives everyday.
