Navy To Replace Mine Seeking Dolphins With Robots

While this may seem like good news for dolphins, there is a catch-22 about being replaced.

For years, the United States Navy has trained dolphins and sea lions to locate enemy mines underwater as well as enemy divers.

Dolphins were trained to alert sailors of mines while sea lions placed claws on swimmers, forcing them to stop.

Now the Navy has made robots to help detect mines but only a fourth of the dolphins will get to retire IF they aren't reassigned.

And many of these dolphins will go to Sea World, not the best retirement package in the world.

At least life after serving our country will be less dangerous for some dolphins.
