While this seven month old macaque has stolen our hearts, he is still separated from his human mama.
As reported earlier, Darwin escaped Yasmin Nakhuda's car and wandered into a Toronto IKEA, looking cute in his tan coat.
Animal control seized the monkey and took him to a shelter, before transferring Darwin to a rescue in northern Ontario.
But Nakhuda isn't taken this lightly. She's hired a lawyer and she's willing to everything she can to get her macaque back.
Animal experts claim Darwin is better off at the sanctuary, claiming Darwin will become aggressive as he get older.
Nakhuda disagrees and states the following in an email:
This monkey cannot be away from me for five minutes without having a panic attack as baby monkeys only step off their mother’s back when they have their mothers in view. They only they feel safe if they know their mother is around to protect them from predators …
For now Darwin needs my back. And I need him back.
In either case, we hope Darwin lives a long and happy life…hopefully with no more drama!
A 45-year-old nurse from Lima, Peru, named Maria Torero makes her money during the day caring for sick humans. But with the help of donations and her own money, she spends her nights taking care of terminally ill cats.
And not one or two sick kitties, but 175 of them! At least that was the number at last count.
