Have you ever wanted some creepy crawly insects on your plate?!?
Netherlands Wageningen University researcher, Dennis Oonincx believes that everyday livestock causes too much strife on the environment and that insects are a lot more atmosphere friendly, he noted:
"Since the population of our planet keeps growing, and the amount of land on this Earth is limited, a more efficient, and more sustainable system of food production is needed. Now, for the first time it has been shown that mealworms, and possibly other edible insects, can aid in achieving such a system."
Since mealworms only take up 10 percent of land and the production of other meat products can take up over 30 percent, analysts believe that more mealworm production will lead to more land preservation.
We think it's cool that the worms are a lot more friendly to the environment, but we're not sure if eating the creepy creatures is the next big thing on our list, even if they are ground up and packed with protein!
