Three blind mice…three blind mice…SEE how they run!
After receiving retinal implants, a group of mice now have the ability to see for the first time.
This is a HUGE step towards helping humans with eye diseases!!!!
Scientists used an extremely fine needle to inject hundreds of thousands of photoreceptor precusor cells into the eyes of 12 mice.
The cells then began to develop and replace the light receptor cells already in their eyes, and 10 of 12 mice were able to respond to the light.
When mice see light, they run away so this mean 10 of the mice could see!
Doctors hope that once safety issues are studied, they can begin clinical trials on humans.
