Game hunting has been a major sport in Zambia for a long time, but now that killing animals such as leopards and lions can possibly affect the tourism rate in the country, Minister Sylvia Masebo has put in end to the sport!!
Miz Masebo said:
"Tourists come to Zambia to see the lion and if we lose the lion we will be killing our tourism industry."
Currently, Zambia is home to just about 4,500 lions, and Africa as a whole has a population of 15,000 to 30,000 lions — and even though the minister revealed that hunting gains the country $3 million a year, she said that losing tourism doesn't make up for what they make in hunting.
The hunting ban will surface to the country's neighbor Botswana, which is set to forbid the sport starting next year.
We're glad Zambia is no longer letting people participate in the awful activity, because ultimately, protecting all African animals, which include Cape buffalos, rhinos and elephants is all that matters!!
