With a huge horse meat scare making its way through Europe, everyone has been getting nervous that their ground beef might not be all it says it is.
So ground-beef samples from nine NYC grocery stores was tested.
And when the results were analyzed, looking for horse DNA they found…
Woo! No tainted beef in NYC!
Uncooked ground beef samples were taken from Whole Foods, Pathmark, Key Food, Met Food, Trader Joe’s, Costco, Western Beef, C-Town and Morton Williams.
A rep for the company who tested the beef said:
"The DNA analysis is so sensitive, it detects very small amounts. In Europe, you’re seeing a good degree of cross-contamination and some degree of fraud. We can’t tell what the intention behind it is. Was there a profit motive or prior use of the facility?"
All we know is this really does make us feel much much better.
Way to keep the meat horse-free, NYC!
