Almost exactly one year ago, James Cameron traveled to the Challenger Deep.
The Challenger Deep is the lowest point in the Mariana Trench… 7 miles down!!
Now, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has announced that Cameron is partnering with them to advance ocean sciences.
He is donating his Deepsea Challenger submersible system!!
The same thing he went to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in!
"[Woods Hole] is a place where the Deepsea Challenger system will be a living, breathing and dynamic program going forward."
Just because he's giving them his sub doesn't mean he's done diving though!
He lives to adventure! He plans on tackling the Sirena Deep next, which is over 6 miles down in the western Pacific.
So crazy!! What a multitalented guy! Way to help out science!
