The race for the next mayor of New York City may be a historic one.
Not only for humans, but for horses, too!
Horse drawn carriages in New York City have become a big issue these days.
Animal activists say it is severe animal cruelty to have horses drawing carriages around cars in the city. Plus they say the horses are treated very poorly!
But others say that to remove carriage horses from the city will put 300 people out of a job!
One of the supporters of carriage horses is Christine C. Quinn - a top candiate to replace Michael Bloomberg as mayor of the Big Apple.
Here's what he said:
“I grew up with the romantic notion that this was part of New York City culture. I had not really thought honestly about the ramifications of it.”
de Blasio says he will remove the carriage horses from the city entirely if he's elected mayor.
But is he just using the issue to further his candidacy?
Will that even matter to animal activists who just want these poor horses to be treated right?
Guess we'll just have to wait and find out!
