Puppy, Nearly Starved To Death, Recovered And Changed Life Of Autistic Boy Owner

Xena & Jonny Hickey

This is certainly an incredible rescue story!

Xena, a Staffordshire terrier mix, was nearly starved to death, weighing only 4-pounds when she was brought into a Georgia animal shelter.

That's how she got her name, Xena the Warrior, because she fought for her life.

After she was healthy enough to be adopted, Jonny Hickey, an 8-year-old autistic boy was given Xena after his mom adopted her.

Jonny went from being an intensely isolated, socially awkward child to being an outgoing chatterbox because of his doggy!

His mom said:

"These two were destined to be together, to save each other at a level that humans just can’t understand. From the very first day, that dog was sitting in his lap in the car seat, giving him all these kisses. And that’s where she’s been ever since."

That's so so so sweet!!

There is a lot of research into companion animals really helping children with autism spectrum disorder.

So this is just more proof of how absolutely incrediballs dogs are!!

Jonny and Xena saved each other! Too cute!
