We don't just mean having a dog will fill your heart with feelings of joy and contentment.
We mean that the American Heart Association released a study that had a panel of experts review years of data on the cardiovascular benefits of owning a pet!
Not only does owning a dog force you to be more active, like when you have to walk them or fight to remove a slipper from their mouth, but they also calm you down.
A dog can sense when an owner is stressed and move in and comfort them, lowering their heart rate.
They even found that people who owned pets were more likely to survive heart attacks!
It's not just about owning a pet though, being healthy still counts for something, with the panel saying:
"If someone adopts a pet, but still sits on the couch and smokes and eats whatever they want and doesn’t control their blood pressure, that’s not a prudent strategy to decrease their cardiovascular risk."
So get a doggy and start working out and you'll have a healthy heart!
