One of the most classic New York City myths is about alligators.
Specifically rumors of gigantic alligators living in the sewers!!
A 3 to 4-foot long alligator was spotted on in the Peconic River, off Long Island.
State workers are currently trying to wrangle the beast.
There's been an increase in Long Island alligators in recent years, and there's a good theory as to why, according to a member of NY's Emergency Animal Response team, who said:
"People go out of state, grab them. They come back with small alligators - and then they grow."
And once they grow too large, people dump them!
There have been 17 gators found in the last nine months alone!!
This needs to stop! Alligators don't make good pets, people! C'mon!
