Walmart Employee Fired For Reporting Dog Locked In Hot Truck!

| Filed under: CanadialandSad SadBusiness BlitzDogAnimal Cruelty

This is totes reDICKulous!! Not cool, Walmart, not cool.

Carla Cheney was fired from a Walmart in Kemptville, Ontario, just south of Ottawa.

She was terminated after confronting a customer over their dog, which they left in a truck on a hot day.

The stupidest part was she wasn't even in her uniform or even on the clock when she confronted the customer.

During the confrontation with the customer, he said he'd never be shopping at Walmart again, and Carla said she'd be calling the police if she saw him do it again.

Afterwards, Carla was called into her manager's office and fired for "being rude" to the customer.

Rude?? She was trying to save a doggy's life!!

Check out the video (above) to hear what happened in Carla's own words.

No suprise here, Walmart cares only about money. No profit in saving a puppy .

Good for you Carla for doing the right thing! You're too good for walmart anyways! I hope a different employer gets wind of you true values and you have another job in no time. And thanks for another reason to NOT SHOP AT WALMART!!!

Oh please, another liberal view that is completely distorted…I would totally think this was wrong if your headline was actually what happened. She should have just called the cops, but she didn't. She confronted the customer and started a fight. She should be fired. The right thing to do would have been to call the cops on the low lives that leave a dog in their car.

In light of all the toddlers who have died in hot car and pets over the past few weeks what type of message is Walmart Canada sending - seriously somebody in their Corporate Social Responsibility department better do their due diligence and fix them situation now - sending the message WE SUPPORT you leaving your pets in a locked hot vehicle - agree not cool!!

Wal-Mart can't put a price tag on the life of an animal or a person so naturally they wouldn't care. Since Sam Walton died, Wal-Mart has only been about the money. They are a greedy corporation with no regard for anyone but themselves. They hire workers in at part-time positions, slowly work them full-time hours but still classify them as part time to deny them the benefits provided to full-time employees. Such a shame this is allowed and such a shame that Wal-Mart doesn't care about anything that isn'tmonetary.

The manager should be fired !!!! she was not on company time and she was being a good citizen we been having triple tempatures fire the manager this makes me not shop at that particular store be cause of the manager. If the customer don't want to come back (SEE YA & KICK ROCKS) that was your choice

AMARIOLA - a dog in the car is not an issue that would be responded promptly by them….calling the spca would have been better as the police have civilian issues to deal with and would have taken forever to respond. Also, more people need to stand up to idiots like the person who left the dog in the car. Break a window, speak your mind, save a life
. Carla did the right thing. and guess what, cops are involved now and Carla is making headline news. jealous some?

Thats ridiculous! And as someone metioned there have been a string of infant deaths in hot cars in Canada lately. The police have also recently released statements informing people if they see a child or pet in distress in a hot car, after reporting it, and if necesary, they should smash a window, and will not be breaking any laws, as there is no criminal intent. Good information to pass around.

  9. 9

Allison - never have and never will be jealous of people who blatantly think they can break the law. Breaking windows? I would love to see what happens to you if you break someones window because YOU feel something is wrong with what THEY are doing. You need to get an education before you go around acting crazy.

Re: bridgegal66 – Actually she was fired because she called the Cops. Walmart told her not to call the cops in any future incident similar to this and when she said she would continue to call the cops she was fired

Walmart a bunch of religious people, they only care about money. Besides, they probably believe that animals can't get into Heaven, so they aren't worthy of care.

  12. Sammy says – reply to this

Walmart does not care about employees OR customers. They care about the sale!! Reporting the customer would just lose another sale! Shame on you walmart. And thanks Perez for posting this!

I live in Kemptville & this was absolutely ATROCIOUS. Everything in this story is true. The plus side for this girl is that the local Canadian Tire Manager here offered her a job on the spot. The CT Manager had previously had the same thing happen & instead of him telling his employee, "I can't do anything about it", he immediately took action to get the dog out. The Manager at Walmart clearly needs to get fired & CT has my money as of now!

  14. bridgegal66 says – reply to this

Re: Rachy – Well done to CT for hiring Carla as far as Walmart goes it is a reflection on their mgmt and not this gal - so YES I hope the person who fired her is either retrained or something more serious and if it was because she did or did not call the cops good on her that she took the initiative, but sought to protect the dog well good on her - perhaps Walmart should give some money to her such as $5k for her to return to school to take a program in social change - the world needs more people like Carla - thank you !!!!

  15. JulieLa says – reply to this

Shame on Wal-Mart, but pretty excited to see you are posting something on our little small town in Canada!

  16. Leslie says – reply to this

That Walmart manager is STUPID. The humane society should get behind this girl and help her sue Walmart.

Has anyone verified that the douchebag dude was actually a Walmart customer or just parking his truck in their lot to go to other businesses? For him to say "I'll never shop here again" is stupid…of course he'll be back - anyone who locks their pet in a hot vehicle is a blue light special kind of guy

  19. Carina says – reply to this

I was in the exact same situation. Hot Vegas 118 parking garage, dog locked in car. I threw a fit, got security. They could not get the dog out. I was told if I call animal control I would be fired. I wasn't told not to talk. I told hotel guests who called animal control. The dog was saved and so was my job. Corporations suck.

  20. @v@ says – reply to this

So, Walmart supports hot or dying imprisoned dogs over face palm common sense ethics?
That just figures. Support your mom and pop or other stores until knee jerk gives this brave and decent stand up woman her job back. Guess what. The customer isn't always right. Right can pretty much be figured out on its own merit.

  21. 21

Walmart doesn't care about their employees…why would they care about an animal? All they care about is money and China! I refuse to shop at that disgusting place. Their revenue sales have gone down to crap because NOBODY SHOPS AT WALMART ANYMORE!

  22. 22

Carla Cheney, you did the right thing.

  23. Dominic0 says – reply to this

Giant Tiger has offered her a job when they heard about this. I'll definitely choose GT over Wallmart from now on :)

  24. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: Dominic0 – I won't support any company that would support an employee that keep their sneaky, slimy lips shut and let a helpless pet die in car heat over this woman who did the right thing while she wasn't on their ruddy clock. That tells me
all I need to know about what kind of employees they value. No wonder I can't get any help in that store. There are no do the right thing people allowed.

  25. @v@ says – reply to this

I don't blame any smallmart employees. I abhor this shameful policy.

  26. Christine says – reply to this

Actually, she did call the police. It was after they had gone into the store to find the owner that the arsehole with the dog confronted her outside Walmart and basically told her to mind her own business… then she was fired. Also, the police suggest that you call them first, then they can get into contact with the SPCA. The police are able to break the window immediately if they feel it is warranted, while the SPCA/Humane Society has to wait…

  27. Rachy says – reply to this

Re: Dominic0 – Canadian Tire has also offered her a job on the spot!

  28. Barbara says – reply to this

Re: Justin McNeill – You are so right and I totally agree! That employee should be given a raise and praised for saving that dogs life. Walmart doesn't care about their employees or anything but money. Greedy greedy company! I have a few friends and family members that worked or are working there so I know how they treat them. I wish another decent company would overpower them and shut them down. I applaud that employee for her effort to save that helpless dog.

  29. linda E says – reply to this

amariola you are calling a Canadian a liberal because she saw a wrong and tried to right it… if Conservative spout it though then it is ok…give us a break…

  30. Walmart Employee says – reply to this

Funny thing is, when the customer said it was none of your business she told him to go fuck himself! I was in the parking lot and saw the whole thing

Re: Barbara – You are officially one of the most uneducated people I know, judging the story, and walmart when you know NOTHING about either one.
