We can't believe how terrible this is!
Nearly 100 cats were killed by a house fire in San Diego. The cats who perished had been originally rescued by a woman who nearly lost her own life in the fire.
She kept the cats in her house in crates, and also had fencing installed so the cats couldn't escape.
That fencing was part of the reason firefighters had such difficulty entering her home to save the felines.
Only six of the woman's cats she was caring for survived.
The woman herself, who's in her 70's, was sleeping on the couch and had no idea there was a fire until her rescue dog started barking and woke her up.
Here's what the woman said:
"They were like my children. I devoted my whole life to them. I always worried that I couldn't get back to them. I always made sure they had plenty of food and fresh water. They were well cared for and terribly loved."
There is no word yet on how the fire got started.
This is so sad, but we're glad the woman of the house was able to survive.
We're sure she'll save a lot more cats in the future, probably in dedication to the ones she lost during this difficult period of her life.
