This is so crazy amazing!
A rescue dog named Rupee has become the first pup to make it to Mount Everest's base camp!
That's 17,000-feet above sea level!! That's insane-o!!
Joanne Lefson, an animal activist and world traveler, rescued Rupee from a garbage dump in Northern India.
She found the poor pup on the verge of death, took him into her loving arms and nursed him back to health.
"When I saw him on that dumpsite, he couldn't have had more than an hour to live. He couldn't even walk 10 meters without collapsing. The little fellow had heart, I could tell that, but he was very weak from having no food and water for days, perhaps weeks."
Her dog Oscar was originally going to go on the expedition with her, seeing as how Oscar was her trip buddy for years beforehand but sadly Oscar passed away in January. (Rupee is in the bottom left of the pic (above), that's the late Oscar in the middle.)
So Lefson took her new pup Rupee to the vet and had him given the a-okay to be able to make the journey.
So they did! They made it all the way! Rupee apparently had a blast, especially playing in the snow, with Lefson saying:
"He played in it at every opportunity, chased it and even tried to chew it at times."
Ha! That's adorable! This dog was scaling a freakin' mountain and just having a blast!
So cute! Congrats, Rupee!!
