We're pretty sure PETA has always wanted Duck Dynasty off the air, mostly because of the fact they made their millions making duck calls that have tricked untold amounts of ducks into their own slaughter. This whole anti-gay and racism thing just happens to be the perfect opportunity for PETA to go on the offensive!
Here's what they said about Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ:
“PETA wants A&E to do more than suspend one of the characters on Duck Dynasty for damning gays. We call on the channel to challenge the entire crew of duck slayers to ignore Sarah Palin’s self-serving slap on the back for spewing hate speech and deny that they are as anti-gay as they are anti-animal. All people who consider themselves followers of Christ should follow all His teachings—and that includes showing mercy, compassion, and kindness to all of God’s creation, human and nonhuman alike. What’s ‘sinful’ is hating people and animals. PETA asks everyone who consider themselves to be Christian to reject hate speech and call for this show’s cancellation.”
Wow! They aren't holding back at ALL!
While we're not sure A&E is ready to just up and cancel one of their most popular shows, we DO know they might not have to according to the family's official statement — which sounds a lot like the family wouldn't want to continue the show out of respect (??) to the guy who made the homophobic and race-ignorant comments in the first place!
The network announced that it has suspended Phil for an undetermined amount of time, though, and they did it fast! Who knows what else the channel is capable of??
P.S. — This wasn't the first time Phil tried to spread hate and condemnation for the LGBT community. See his anti-gay sermon from YEARS ago HERE.
