Marijuana is one of the safer drugs out there, even compared to alcohol!
You know how much weed you'd have to smoke to overdose on pot??
Theoretically, (a judge once did the math) you'd have to smoke about 1,500 pounds of marijuana in about 15 minutes to ingest a lethal dose!!
You'd die from smoke inhalation, asphyxiation and Doritos hunger before you ever O.D.ed.
Sadly, a dog can actually die from marijuana consumption!
Especially in special brownie form because its a double poisoning of cannabis and chocolate!
As cannabis becomes more and more readily available (through increased medicinal use or full on legalization, Colorado style) poison control centers are receiving more dog overdose related calls.
The director of the Animal Poison Control Center said:
"Animals don’t react the same way as humans. They may become sedated, act drunk and wobbly, but about 25 percent go the other way. They become agitated, have high heart rates, they’re in distress. Most dogs become incontinent. They stagger around dribbling urine everywhere."
Without treatment, with a high enough dose, a dog can slip into a coma and die!!
That's awful! Thankfully, awareness has helped people to realize they need to protect their pooch.
With legalization comes knowledge!
If you suspect your dog is toking up, then call your local vet or the ASPCA’s poison control center at (888) 426-4435! It could save their life!
