Listen up, President Obama!
Sean Penn, Cher, Susan Sarandon, Jennifer Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Ellen DeGeneres and William Shatner, along with others have signed a letter written by Russell Simmons urging you to step and and stop Japan’s annual roundup and slaughter of bottlenose dolphins!
It's high time this tradition be stopped — and we're fully aware how cultures deserve their own traditions and how they should be respected. That is, as long as they're not bringing ANYONE or ANYTHING harm!
The letter was addressed to Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Japan.
Here's some of what the letter said:
“Should human compassion not be afforded the same privilege as business interests? The world is looking to you, Ambassador Kennedy, and to our government to send a clear message to Japan that this atrocity must be banned now.”
Here are some awful stats according to Simmons: more than 600 dolphins have been slaughtered since the hunting season began Sept. 1, including when dozens of fishermen helped to herd about 250 dolphins into a cove one day last month.
FORTY of them were killed for their meat, and FIFTY of them were kept alive to sell (to aquariums, etc.), and just a few were eventually released!
We hope Obama and the administration takes a stand! If celebs can't get him to do it, we would hope others will stand with them!
