We can't stop thinking about the horrors going on in Sochi during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
No, we don't mean the awful hotel rooms journalists can't stop tweeting about, we mean the dog slaughter!
Hundreds of strays were killed in Sochi to clear the streets before the opening ceremony.
Thankfully, Russian billionaire Oleg V. Deripaska is helping locals to save the strays!
Through his generosity, a shanty town of dog houses was built outside of town where about 80 dogs now live.
As a pest control company is going around murdering dogs, the rescuers are trying to stay one step ahead… with a "dog rescue" golf cart!
Rescuers are driving around in the cart, picking up stray pups and bringing them to the shelter/shanty town called PovoDog, a play on the Russian word for leash: 'povodok.'
Deripaska reached into his billions and grabbed $15,000 to get the shelter operating and he's pledged $50,000 per year for operating costs.
That's incredible! Though he is a billionaire… we were kinda hoping for a dog rescue tank instead of a golf cart. Oh well, something is better than nothing.
Let's hope some Olympians adopt some pups and bring them back to their home countries so they can have forever homes far away from the Sochi dog genocide.
