If we ask how much is that doggy in the window, and you say "$1.9 million," we'd probably pass out.
But here's the thing — that's how much a Tibetan mastiff puppy sold for in China's eastern province of Zhejiang!
Apparently a property developer paid the ridiculous price for the golden haired pup!
"Pure Tibetan mastiffs are very rare, just like our nationally treasured pandas, so the prices are so high."
Other Tibetan mastiffs have sold for equally ridiculous prices, with a red mastiff selling for $1.5 million back in 2011.
The dogs are so valued because they're believed to be holy and bring good fortune and luck to the owners. The crazy part is the dogs need a ton of obedience training and can be quite stubborn and aggressive.
An industry insider did give a little insight into why the prices might be so ridiculous, saying:
"A lot of the sky-high priced deals are just breeders hyping each other up, and no money actually changes hands."
Wow, what a great way to drive up the price of your products!
So, do these dogs actually sell for millions of dollars? Or are the Chinese breeders just being shady businessmen?
All we know is, you could save thousands and thousands of shelter animals for a million bucks. The money would be better spent doing that.
