Montecore was a beloved white tiger that used to perform with the Las Vegas illusionists Siegfried & Roy.
He was also the tiger that mauled Roy Horn on stage, on his 59th birthday, in front of a sold out audience, leaving Roy disabled.
Roy, though, has always maintained that the tiger was trying to save his life!
He believes that he passed out from a stroke and Montecore picked him up by the neck to drag him to safety. Even though his heart stopped several times, 25% of his skull was removed and he lost most of the use of his left arm and leg, he still feels the animal was only trying to help.
Roy released a statement about the beloved tiger's death, saying:
"The world has lost one of its most majestic creatures and I have lost a brother. I will forever believe it was his concern for my safety and well-being that caused him to act as he did on that night long ago. We spent many hours together and he never failed to bring me great joy and wonderment. It was my great honor to be beside him at the end. He is now playing with his siblings in white tiger heaven.
His contribution to the avalanche of awareness for conservation and preservation has made him unforgettable. His spirit will live forever with Siegfried & Roy and his multitude of fans."
It's so amazing he was immediately able to forgive the tiger and still love it!
All we know is a 600-pound tiger almost ripped his face off, and that's something we'd REALLY have to work on to get past, but we're still sad the tiger died.
Siegfried & Roy lost an old friend, and we wish them condolences.
