SO GROSS! Mayfly Swarm Literally Blankets Mississippi River Towns In Icky Bugs!

bugs all over gas station super gross

Sunday night marked an annual mayfly hatch along the Mississippi River.

And boy did things get gross, quick.

The bugs spend their larva days in the mud of the Mississippi River until its hatching time, when they swim up to the surface and emerge as adults.

While they do make a great meal for frogs and birds and more, there are just so many of them it's crazy.

Apparently, because of the weather this year, the buggies all hatched around the same time, and when they did, the swarm was so large it was literally picked up on weather radar, as if it were a raincloud.

Towns along the Mississippi River are getting hit hard by the swarm, with bugs covering every square inch of everything! Worst part is they leave behind a gross slime that may have already caused a car accident!

The pictures are intense, with bugs piling up inches high on the ground, swarming in big bug clouds, taking up every square inch of wall space.

The only good news is the mayfly lives for only a few hours to a few days on average.

Hopefully "buggageddon" won't be as bad as previous years where snowplows literally had to be brought in to clear the dead bugs off the highways.

In northern Canada we get them like that for a few days every summer.
Doesn't bother one bit - they don't bite and they are actually kinda cute
