beluga whale plays with kids

Wow, those kids sure are lucky!

At the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, a playful beluga whale surprised a group of children with a bunch of funny faces and silly antics.

In the video, the kids react with shock and happiness when the whale, Juno, engages them in a game of peek-a-boo.

The aquarium's chief marine biologist explained:

"He's really just playing with them. He's playing peekaboo. The kids getting his reaction is really what's spurring him on to keep doing it."

Check out the absolute cuteness (below)!

Aw, how adorable! We bet Juno made those kids day!

This whale is showing signs of frustration and aggression. He isn't playing with the kids. He is trying to intimidate them and get them to retreat.

Re: April – I agree. They have a naturally smiley face so we assume they are happy. This animal is a slave in captivity. Why do we teach children that this is ok?

I wish you had done research before posting this. This whale is not "playing" with the children . This is classic aggression on the part of the beluga. He is captive and frustrated and angry. This is an incredibly sad video and the fact that people think this is cute and funny is really quite sad.

After 5 decades of effort, breeding Beluga Whales in captivity is so unsuccessful that the captive population cannot sustain itself and aquariums are now trying to rip more and more of them from their homes in the ocean to live in concrete boxes.
Every year hundreds of belugas are rounded up and captured in Nilmoguba, a small village in Russia, to be trained for a lifetime of entertaining humans. Around half of these whales are unable to adapt to captivity and die, often of starvation.
Want to put a stop to this? DONT support marine parks and aquariums housing captive cetaceans. Every park is interconnected, and the only way to bring down this industry is by ending the demand for them. Boycott, and spread information.

This isn't "playing"….this poor animal is obviously upset and frustrated

The whale is not playing with the children, he would be attacking them if he could. So many times people look at these actions and think they are cute and adorable when in reality the whale is trying to express aggitation.
