This would LITERALLY be the most amazing thing to ever happen to daytime television!
According to an ET source, the network has been talking to the Parks and Recreation alum's reps in hopes of filling Michael Strahan's empty seat on the morning program.
The 52-year-old was in talks for the same gig back in 2012 when ABC was searching for Regis Philbin's replacement, after the charismatic actor impressed audiences over his two-day stint as guest host.
While Lowe didn't get the job four years ago, the timing is looking a lot better this time around! Not only did his Fox show The Grinder get cancelled earlier this month, but he admitted to needing a distraction due to empty nest syndrome.
Speaking to ET earlier this week, Lowe didn't turn down the possibility of joining LIVE, explaining:
Morley Safer, the longest-serving reporter in 60 Minutes history has passed away at the age of 84.
No cause of death was given, but Morley only retired from the longstanding CBS show last week after working for the show for 46 years!
The reporter originally joined the news program in 1970, only two years after it launched, and worked there ever since.
Safer contributed to over 919 reports over the years and after retiring last week due to poor health, 60 Minutes aired a special hour-long career retrospective last Sunday!
CNN anchor and 60 Minutes contributor Anderson Cooper remembered Morley fondly, saying:
There's no doubt that you've definitely heard some of the drama regarding Michael Strahan leaving LIVE! with Kelly and Michael.
Sure there have been some awkward moments, but the show must go on — and apparently it might be headed to a new city!
The blonde beauty recently dished to People that LIVE! could potentially move to California thanks to her 14-year-old daughter, Lola!
And while other rumored frontrunner Jerry O'Connell admitted he has yet to be approached by the ABC morning program, he would definitely have a hard time turning the offer down!
Speaking at a press event on Monday for his upcoming role on Mistresses, the actor said it would be a "dream" to work next to Ripa every morning!
He told Us Weekly:
As we're sure you know, there's a WHOLE LOT of drama going on at LIVE! with Kelly and Michael ever since Michael Strahan announced he would be moving to Good Morning America.
Since then, there has been all kinds of chaos with Kelly Ripa being a bit pissed off, Strahan being pushed out a bit earlier than expected, and rumors of Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper, Mario Lopez and EVEN Regis Philbin replacement cohosts.
Well the former NFLer attended the Met Gala on Monday night and talked with Entertainment Tonight about about all the drama and said people have "the wrong impression" about what went down during the meeting where Ripa found out!
The 44-year-old went on to dish on the controversy saying:
With the former NFLer's departure, rumors have already started flying about who could replace him.
Ch-ch-check out Andy and Anderson try and pawn the job off on one another before finding the ULTIMATE solution (below)!
But according to reports, another seasoned TV personality has been "approached" to replace Strahan — and we're talking about none other than Regis Philbin!
That's right! Sources told Page Six that the OG LIVE! anchor himself was entertaining the idea of returning to the long running daytime show.
An insider explained that the production reached out to Philbin's longtime agent Kenny DiCamillo to discuss the possibility of Reeg returning to his natural habitat, noting:
